Loch Lomond: A Year in the Wild
Loch Lomond is one of the UK’s largest and most popular National Parks. Boasting 21 mountains, 22 lochs and 50 rivers winding through waterfalls, alpine forests and lowland meadows to the coast, this National Park contains some of the most diverse flora and fauna in the country.
The landscape is picturesque and historic: Sir Walter Scott wrote ‘Lady of the Lake’ here, Wordsworth penned ‘Inversaid’ and Queen Victoria said the views were the ‘essence of Scotland’. Outlaw Rob Roy is buried in its midst, castles dot the valleys and in the lochs, tiny islands hold ancient ruins.
Wildlife weaves throughout this varied land. Many species are unique to Loch Lomond and it’s also home to great wildlife spectacles – the five species of deer rutting, silver salmon making their final swim home, seals gracing the shores to pup, porpoise arcing along the coastline and Golden Eagle soaring over the mountains.
With the park and its landscape as the central character we will follow the wildlife through the seasons, following their individual secret stories and revealing how their lives seamlessly weave together in this unique land...
