Food Trail: South Africa
Food Trail: South Africa is a show as much about the country's diverse people and striking landscape as it is about its eclectic cuisine.
We embark on a journey through South Africa's remarkable regions, across deserts, coasts, and mountains, to finish in the modern, bustling city of Johannesburg. With South African-born chef Warren Mendes as our guide, we explore treasured recipes and unique flavours; through food, we discover stories of the country and its people. Few countries have such strong yet diverse cultural influences in food, with incredible Indian cuisine in Durban, a heavy Malaysian presence in Cape Town, hearty Dutch and German traditional cooking, and, of course, a fascinating native food culture.
This 10-part food-focused documentary series is a casual, humorous, and honest exploration of the country through travel, cultural experiences and recipes. It’s not just about chefs, but about those producers and cooks who feed South Africans every day. And to compliment the delectable subject matter of our episodes, all our stories are set in dramatic landscapes that… you could say... provide a feast for the eyes.
