The series stars Nick Gehlfuss as Dr. Will Halstead, a talented but reckless emergency medicine specialist; Yaya DaCosta as April Sexton, a compassionate and dedicated charge nurse; Torrey DeVitto as Dr. Natalie Manning, a pediatrician who also works in the ED; Brian Tee as Dr. Ethan Choi, a skilled and experienced ED physician; S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin, the tough but fair head of the ED; and Oliver Platt as Dr. Daniel Charles, a brilliant but eccentric psychiatrist.

Chicago Med explores the challenges and triumphs of working in a busy emergency department. The doctors and nurses of the ED must deal with a wide range of medical emergencies, from minor injuries to life-threatening illnesses. They must also work together as a team to save lives and provide comfort and support to their patients and their families.

In addition to the medical cases, Chicago Med also explores the personal lives of the doctors and nurses of the ED. They must learn to balance their demanding jobs with their relationships and their own personal needs.
